Kurtis Durfey

I CONFESS, I'M A TYPOGRAPHICAL DORK.
I love good, legible body copy and tight, strong heads. I'm a BIG fan of the sans-serif, particularly in print—despite the commonly state belief that serif is "easier to read".

When I go out, anywhere, I'll be caught nosing up to a print or pastel or a painting to examine technique. I'm a sucker for clever production treatment; varnishes, die-cuts, and paper—I LOVE paper. And, when budget and creative permit it, I love to push it all to the limit.

I prefer to use styles to position my web pages, and I hand-code all of my HTML. I like my CSS styles to wrap instead of making an infinitely scrolling style sheet, and I'll be the first to admit that designers should not be developers, and vice-versa.

My experience in Marketing is infused in my design work, and the communication of then intended message will ALWAYS drive the design.

DO I THINK ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE?
Well, I'm a relatively decent shot at pool, although there's more typography involved in an eight-ball rack than you might think. I like the outdoors, but, if there were a way to convert tree-sap into laptop-powering energy, I'd have a tree/plug adapter lashed to the back of my pack. I'm awefully critical of TV and radio commercial spots, and I'll turn the channel based on the advertisements, even if the rest of the programming is superb—I just gotta come back after 30 seconds.
